3.28.2001...The Super Billiards Expo 2001 is the largest show in the world that is
open to the public consumer. The show opened on Friday, March 23, at 10:00 am and ran
through Sunday March 25, at 9:00 pm.
There are several events that are included in this great pool
extravaganza. The night
before the show opens, it started out with a celebrity charity event
that benefited the junior players scholarship fund, to the tune of
$4000.00. Not too shabby.
Over the course of the weekend, the show brought in an
astounding 6000 attendees and over 2000 players that participated in
some form of tournament play.
On Friday, the show opened at 10:00 am
with 121 vendors present to sell there wares.
The American Cuemakers Association had their usual block of
booths, including such cuemakers as myself (Ted Harris), Jerry
McWorter, Mike Capone, Rick Chudy, Dan Janes (Joss), Richard
Black, Samsara, Andy Gilbert, Dan Dishaw, Jeff Prather, Tim Scruggs,
Keith Josey, Ernie Martinez, Jacoby, and more.
Outside of the ACA block was yet another 81 booths, selling
everything from cues to tip shapers, cases, clothing , and magazines,
to wood & supplies for cuemaking. Everything & anything a pool nut was looking for could be
found at this show. As
far as I know, every vendor at the show did well.
I know that for myself, it was the best show ever for me, since
I began my trek. There was so much cue repair for me to do, that I
worked 42 hours straight from Friday morning to try and get it done,
then 11 hours more on Sunday. All
after sleeping only 5
hours from Wednesday morning. My
wife Kathy & I were cramming trying to get the cues ready for the
show. We must have worked
20 hours a day for a month. We
were still working on the cues when the show opened, and continued to
get them done right up until 5:00 pm on Friday. By 6:00 pm we were sold out.
Whew!
Allen & Dawn Hopkins, of Allen Hopkins Productions, the producers
of the event, said they would like to thank everyone that attended the
show. “Every event we
had set a record for us. There
were more attendees, vendors, and players than ever before.
Next year, we look forward to an even bigger show.
We are going to promote it all year.
In the past, we have begun promotions in January preceding the
show, but now we are going to accept entries, and promote the show
from this day forward. We will be putting much more time into it, and we know that
will make it an even bigger and better show than ever before.
We look forward to seeing you all at next year’s show, and
thank you all for your continued support.”
The winner of the Allen Hopkins Productions $250.00 cash raffle was
Joyce Hugh. Allen Hopkins
Productions would also like to thank Viking Cue Mfg. and Pool &
Billiard Magazine for their sponsorship.
